The waste problem remains a major issue in the city of Bandung. Every day, waste production in Bandung reaches 1,500 tons per day, requiring innovative, environmentally friendly, and sustainable solutions. In response to this challenge, the Cold Plasma Reactor (RPD) has been introduced, a modern waste processing technology that operates without open burning, without smoke, and without a pungent odor.
This technology is now operational at the Living Laboratory of the Cultural TPS Arcamanik and represents a concrete step in supporting the decentralized waste management system at the village level.
What is a Cold Plasma Reactor?
The Cold Plasma Reactor is a waste processing technology based on the principle of ionization, also known as 'cold fire'. Unlike conventional incinerators that use high-temperature (oxidative) combustion, this plasma technology breaks down molecular compounds in waste without direct combustion.

"Incinerators are old products, burning stoves that use diesel and have flames. We do not. You can see for yourself, the sound is calm, there is no smoke, and there is no odor," said the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unisba, Dr. Ir. M. Dzikron A.M.
With a cleaner operating system, this cold plasma technology becomes a safer alternative for waste processing in the surrounding environment, especially in densely populated areas.
8 Tons per Day Capacity at TPS Arcamanik
The Unisba Cold Plasma Reactor is capable of processing up to 8 tons of waste per day, equivalent to one container. This capacity is very significant in helping to reduce the volume of waste before it is sent to the Final Disposal Site (TPA).
The presence of this technology at the Arcamanik TPS is expected to reduce the burden on the Sarimukti landfill, while also serving as a more effective and efficient regional-based waste processing model.
Smoke-Free Waste Processing with Added Value
The main advantage of the Cold Plasma Reactor is not only its smoke-free and odorless process but also the economically valuable byproducts it produces.
This concept supports the principles of a circular economy, where waste is not only reduced but also processed into useful products..Modern Waste Management Solutions for Bandung

This technology produces:
- Liquid smoke (as liquid) that can be used as a deodorizer and has potential as a natural antibacterial.
- Biochar that can be used as fertilizer or soil amendment.
The presence of the Cold Plasma Reactor at the Arcamanik Waste Processing Site demonstrates that local technological innovation can provide concrete solutions to urban waste problems. The decentralization approach allows processing to be done closer to the waste source, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly.
